BPH Management

Silosure

(Silodosin 8 mg/ 4mg Capsules)

Silosure is a medication for the symptomatic treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia. It acts as an α1-adrenoceptor antagonist with high uroselectivity (selectivity for the prostate).

Benign prostate hyperplasia (BPH), or an enlarged prostate, is a condition found only in men and is characterized by a non-cancerous enlargement of the prostate gland. Symptoms of BPH include urinary difficulty, urinary frequency and an inability to complete bladder emptying. Silosure is highly uroselective for the alpha (1A) receptors located in the prostate, [urethrea and bladder trigone in the lower urinary tract]. Blocking these receptors relaxes the smooth muscles, resulting in an improvement in urine flow and a reduction in BPH symptoms.

The selective binding of silosure to the alpha (1A) receptors is substantially greater than the binding to the cardiovascular-associated alpha (1B) receptors and thereby maximizes target organ activity while minimizing the potential for blood pressure effects. Silosure is alpha 1A-adrenoceptor selective antagonist which inhibits sympathetic nerve stimulation and relaxation of smooth muscle tone in the lower urinary tract which relieves the pressure from contraction of smooth muscle. The reduction of intraurethral pressure improves voiding and storage issues associated with BPH.

Silosure is 583 times more selective for human alpha-1A receptors than alpha-1B receptors. It is also 56 times more selective for human alpha-1A receptors than alpha-1D. Silosure does not prolong the QT interval.

Silosure-D

(Silodosin 8 mg + Dutasteride .5 mg Capsules)

Dutasteride is used in men to treat the symptoms of an enlarged prostate (benign prostatic hyperplasia-BPH). It works by reducing the size of the enlarged prostate. Combining Dutasteride with silodosin (Silosure-D) helps to relieve symptoms of BPH such as difficulty in beginning the flow of urine, weak stream, and the need to urinate frequently or urgently (including during the middle of the night). It may also reduce the need for surgery to treat BPH.

Tamcool

(Tamsulosin 0.4 mg Tablets)

Tamcool is a medication used to treat symptomatic benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), help with the passage of kidney stones, and for urinary retention along with other measures.

Tamcool is a selective α1 receptor antagonist that has preferential selectivity for the α1A receptor in the prostate versus the α1B receptor in the blood vessels.

When alpha 1 receptors in the bladder neck and the prostate are blocked, this causes a relaxation in smooth muscle and therefore less resistance to urinary flow. Due to this, the pain associated with BPH can be reduced.

Tamcool-D

(Tamsulosin 0.4 mg + Dutasteride 0.5 mg Tablets)

Treatment with the combination of dutasteride and tamsulosin (Tamcool-D) provides greater symptom benefits compared to monotherapy with either agent alone for treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia.

Alfuflo

(Alfuzosin 10 mg Tablets)

Alfuflo is a pharmaceutical drug of the α1 blocker class. As an antagonist of the α1 adrenergic receptor, it works by relaxing the muscles in the prostate and bladder neck, making it easier to urinate. It is thus used to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH)

Sexual dysfunction is highly prevalent in men with LUTS and related to the baseline IPSS and bother score. Alfuflo 10 mg once daily for 1 year is effective in improving LUTS and quality of life, and is well tolerated. It may even improve sexual function in those men with concomitant erectile and/or ejaculatory dysfunction.

Alfuflo-D

(Alfuzosin 10 mg + Dutasteride .5 mg Tablets)

In moderate to severe BPH/LUTS the addition of Dutasteride .5 mg is helpful to reduce the chance of developing acute urinary retention.
